LOGLINE

A coming of age story about a young Latino man who tries to break out from his estranged father’s musical shadow only to discover that he must embrace his roots in order to achieve his dream

SYNOPSIS

"Latin Lyrics" is written along the lines of films like "8 Mile" and "Hustle & Flow." The story is about Felix, a young and talented Latino who has a dream of becoming the next big rap star and break out of the shadow of Flaco, his estranged father, who was once a talented salsa performer but lost his dream over drugs and alcohol.

Together with his friend and music partner Jay; Felix decides to enter a music contest. The competition guarantees its winner a coveted recording contract with a well-known music label. However, when a sudden heart attack puts Veronica, Felix's mother, in the hospital, the young man's dream comes to a screeching halt.

Depressed about his mother, Felix argues and breaks up with his music partner and pushes away everyone who cares for him. After learning that Veronica needs an expensive operation which they cannot afford, Felix finds himself in a world populated by a drug gang led by his childhood friend Willie; the world which Veronica tried so much to keep him away from. Soon after joining Willie's drug gang, Felix gets arrested during a police raid in Willie's apartment and realizes it’s the path he is not meant for and decides to fulfill his dream instead.

Now, with time running out and the competition about to take place, Felix turns to the one person he dislikes the most - his father.
